Speech to Note for Mac & Windows v1.0.0 (Beta)

Speech to Note for Mac & Windows v1.0.0 (Beta)

August 18, 2026

Speech to Note now runs natively on your desktop. The Mac and Windows apps sit quietly in the background until you need them — press a hotkey, say what you mean, and your words land as clean text right where your cursor already is. No tab switching, no copy-paste dance.

The Mac and Windows apps are in beta. We’d love your feedback — reach us at hello@speechtonote.com.

1. Works Fully Offline

Switch to Offline Mode and transcribe entirely on your own machine using an on-device AI model. No internet required, and your audio never has to leave your Mac or PC — which makes it safe for meeting notes, client calls, and anything else you’d rather not send to a server. Prefer speed? Cloud mode is still one toggle away.

2. Record & Transcribe Instantly

A global hotkey starts and stops recording from anywhere on your system — ⌘ + . on Mac, Ctrl + Alt + D on Windows. Not the combination you’d have picked? Change it to whatever you like in the app’s settings. When you stop, your words are transcribed and ready to paste into emails, documents, Slack, or your favourite note-taking app.

  • Global hotkey — start and stop recording without leaving the app you’re in
  • Your shortcut, your choice — remap the recording hotkey to any combination that suits your setup
  • One-click paste — the finished text goes straight to your clipboard
  • Works in any text field — the app types where you were already typing
  • Multilingual — dictate in English or many other languages, offline included

3. Clean, Refined Text — Automatically

Filler words and stray grammar get cleaned up before the text lands in your document, so there’s no manual tidying afterwards. On Mac, any custom vocabulary you add — names, brands, jargon — is always spelled the way you spelled it.

Getting Started

  1. Download the app for your platform from speechtonote.com — the Mac app is also installable from the terminal, and the Windows app from PowerShell.
  2. Sign in with your Speech to Note account. A free plan is available and no credit card is required.
  3. Press the recording hotkey and start speaking — the transcript is ready to paste the moment you stop. Set the shortcut to whatever you prefer from the app’s settings.

Requirements

PlatformOperating systemProcessor
MacmacOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or laterApple Silicon or Intel
WindowsWindows 10 version 1809 (build 17763) or later, or Windows 1164-bit (x64) or ARM64, where ARM64 runs through x64 emulation. 32-bit (x86) is not supported.
  • No .NET install needed on Windows — the app ships self-contained and bundles its own runtime.
  • A microphone — required for transcription.
  • An internet connection for cloud transcription, signing in, and update checks. Once you’ve downloaded an on-device model and switched to Offline Mode, transcription itself no longer needs one.

The desktop apps sign in with the same Speech to Note account as the web and mobile apps, so your plan and settings carry over. The Mac app updates itself automatically as new builds ship.
